Odd, whenever I try to upload an avatar, I get a "failed to create temporary file" error. I thought it might be a system wide problem, but then Laz has an avatar just fine.

Could someone else tell me if they're able to get an avatar working, and which option they used?

Guess I can't figure it out. It doesn't give me an option anywhere in the User Cp to add an avatar. Is it a moderator only function?

Might be. Try it again now.

Meh, I couldn't think of anything good for the newbie forum title.

Aparently I'm a traveller, geuss I'm not good enough to be a Tharashkian :(

Coldin

Tharashkians begin at 10 posts.

Tiblorian

Don't say that, I'm trying to be good this time around :P

Its really great to have this site back, forgot how much I missed it. The small and friendly community of House Tharashk just doesn't exist anywere else.

Xan, your avatar is scaring me....

Its the cover of the single greatest RPG mod I have ever played or run.

I like it.

And if it scaring you, its doing its job.

Tiblorian

Its even scarring me, and I'm insane enough to have had a sock puppet as an avatar for the last two or so years.

What mod is it from? It looks like maybe Vampire the Masquerade or Shadowrun

Well looks like there is a problem with the sigs-it doesn't allow HTML or [IMG], nice site by the way :D

Having a problem uplaoding my avatar. Also, I can't seem to get my image from Photobucket linked into my sig, as well.

In all honesty, it's just fluff, as far as I'm concerned...take your time and get the rest of the site running before dealing with my particular.

Oh...and thank you, Jules and Coldin, for doing everything to get us up and running. Love ya guys.

I'm heading into work now - I'll get you both set up when I get back - seems that we may have to tweak default settings - otherwise we can give the specific permissions. as needed.

I stumbled across the setting for images in signatures earlier.
It's under vB options, User Profile Options in the admincp. It's the setting for "Allowing images outside of normal forum posts" or somethin like that I believe.

I can try flippin it over to yes if you'd like :). Otherwise, I'll poke the color scheme a bit more, almost done Coldin's request.

Fixed - I found the place to change the default setting for adding images to the siggyies. No one should have problems with this anymore.

Looks like you can upload an avatar but you cannot link to one (on say photobucket or some other hosting site).

At least that's what I'm getting.

I don't see an option for linking in the permissions area at all :(

It used to be possible to name your location, I think it was displayed between members names and titles? Is there any chance of that option coming back?

Rommalb

If you go under User CP and profiles theres a location option in there, it shows up on the far right above your post count

Ahh, danke danke. And I see it displays on the right, I think I prefer when all the details were displayed to the left of the post instead of above, but I guess a widescreen monitor gives me a bit of a bias in that regard.

That's type of setup can be done with the styles thing that Xaearth is working on. If you want it, maybe place the request in his thread on style options. ;)

Yep, should be able to move stuff around. Mainly workin on tweakin colors and stuff while I re-familiarize myself with the more complex stuff.

Jules, did ya add me to the list of people with access to vB's references (their coding and support forums)? Might be able to find some pre-made coding that does what they're lookin for there.

Edit: Actually reading the admin guide, it's a simple matter of changing the forum post display from the new version to the older version (which displayed user info to the left of the post). So, if the forums would rather have it that way, I can change it easily, if not, I'll make another style that changes it to the old version for those who like it better to use

I think this is the setting you're looking for ...

That's the DDO forums options page - I don't see that setting in our options though.

DDO forums are running an older version of vB. Could be that the version they're running gave the option to the users, or could be that they customized their forums to code that in.

Like I said, it can be done fairly easily, but it affects everyone using the style that's changed.

The file size of that av is probly too big, max is just under 20kb.

What I'm not sure... are people still having problems linking to off-site avatars? Dunno why that would be an issue .

Jules

When trying to link: "Remote file is too large."
When trying to upload, it accepts it but resizes it and makes it static by limiting it to the first image in the animation.

Also, when trying to remote link to any file that meets the guidelines for avatar, I still get this: "Upload failed due to failure writing temporary file."

Jules

how big is it - can you resize it - we should be able to change our limits - :)

Coldin

Hmm, but how far can we get away with the limit changes? We wouldn't want to over-tax the server or anything. Plus I really wouldn't want the actually dimensions of the avatars to increase. Don't want the avatars really dominating the focus of the forums.

Jules

duh it only pulled the first image - when I first looked at what you were referring to - it only showed the first image, not all of them. I have to look at it in aother browser to see that it was an ever changing image.

hmm it looks like its fine in the message body, maybe adding it as a siggy - as we have larger signatures then avatars?

I can resize it to 100x100, but the file size would still be too large.
