When the forum went down I tried logging onto the Turbine forums to check for comments but found myself locked out. It took awhile but eventually I figured out my payment had lapsed, probobly becouse I was issued a new credit card recently. What pissed me off is the lack of notification, no communication whatsoever to warn me or explain.
I don't login often, I think only a few times in the last 6 months so I think I'll take this as a sign. And on the flipside there have been a mass of comments from guild members trying out AOC, enough that some of them have reserved the guild name. I checked it out it looks interesting, and when I ran a test my pc qualified for the minimum specs (which surprised me). On a whim I preordered today, collectors edition even so I'll be trying it out probobly late next week.
So that's me done with DDO at least for the forseeable future.

Yeah, that's happened to me a couple times too. I didn't really get upset about it though, since all it takes is a second to go the account page and enter in the new credit card data.
AoC does look interesting, but I really wonder how well it will hold up. I also hear it's pretty demanding on the computer too, even more so than DDO.
Anyway, have fun with AoC.

I left DDO for a long time (8 months) based on non-game related issues. I actually ended up missing the people more than the game (How many times can you run through the same quest?)
I'm not too interested in AoC though. Too much hassle and then I'd have to make brand new friends there.

I completely agree.

Pretty much all the guys I like from DDO are right here, or post on the Storm Lords forum. I think that'll be enough for the community feel, I was never much for ingame chatting anyway.
I'd say the community makes or breaks most mmo's from my experience, I think I would have quit DDO a long time ago if it weren't for the community.

Good luck in AoC, man.

My wife's interested in AoC, but I'm not really sure about it. What does it have as a claim to fame?

Violence and lots of it. A friend of mine has it and he said its very bloody, as well as packing more than its fair share of scantily clad or nude girls. It also has an intriguing combat system with blocking enemy attacks but I havent really seen that yet to comment much on

It shipped late yesterday, so in theory I should be installing it any day now. Hopefully my system can handle it, my specs may be iffy. I removed DDO, Ryzom, Oblivion, and a bunch of other stuff to make the room, the projected 34 gigs needed is daunting (my C drive is only 75gig total).

It arrived promptly (gotta love New Zealands postal system) going through the 632megs of patching right now.
