Update: Update 7 will also add a 12-man raid, a free questline and will support DirectX-11

Thats right, you heard (read) it first here, on DDO-daily.com.

Turbine will be releasing Half-elves in Update 7 along with already known, Half-orcs.
All PAX 2010 attendees will see the new races presented at the Turbine booth at the convention.

This apparently is totlaly legit too. Been on other sites.

Maybe I should rethink my gimp and turn him into a half-elf; then he'd be REALLY gimpy.

Woot.

Can't wait to see the pictures people take at PAX.. new default skin.. all these nice changes..

Looks like Jundak will be getting his TR earlier than I thought...he and Quintan were both suppossed to be half-elven since launch day. I was gonna wait till I had all of his raid/epic gear, but screw it...I've been looking forward to half-elves for WAY too many years. :)

I wonder what I'm going to do with Lynton. He's supposed to be a half-elf too. TR maybe?

I'm still trying to figure out what they're gonna do to half-elves to make them, well, actually attractive.

There's no stat adjustments; I don't see that changing (except for enhancments. I'm -hoping- for human adaptability, with the option to take elven dex 2 instead of HA 2)

Elf resists; okay not bad.

Maybe they could give proficiency with all "elf" weapons? Longsword/Longbow/Shortbow/Scimi/Falchion/Shortsword/Shuriken?

I mean, iunno. Aex was supposed to be half-elven too, but, I'm not sure I really care enough for the flavor to make him such, unless there was something useful for the race.

/shrug Maybe the Mark of Storms will kick ass, and maybe they will have built some useful enhancement lines.

I assume Half Elves will also get a dragonmark line, and Arcane Archer enhancements.

But yeah, who knows how they'll be balance wise.

Ok, had our first peek at Update 7 action... lots of news, here is the brief

Half Orcs are there, customized tusks and all. They broad shoulders, mutton chops, all good.

Also... Half Elves, also some new sorts of facial customizations, eye shadow etc... they look nice

<didn't see crunchy stuff, just pics images>

New UI is nice, both a visual and functional overhaul, especially in inventory and auction house. Tabbed categories for inventory as optional view rather than grid. AH has small search string box along with the level and buyout options.

New adventure Pack level 12 from new hub zone Lords March off the harbor, hangout for the coin lords apparently. Includes a Medusa Boss.

New plane of night in game event, public combat out in Delera's graveyard when the sky goes all purple.

New Level 6 raid (with epic version) from the marketplace, travel back in time to alternate stormreach history during devil invasion. Many old stormreach locations under demon management. Multiple encounter areas and such, pretty cool looking.

Refinements like guild size only based on "active" members rather than all in roster.

Ok, Sig out from Pax

A LEVEL SIX raid.

/facepalm

There's some speculation about the raid scaling like the DA quest to do something like 6/12/18/Epic for the difficulty settings. If that's the case, then I'm not totally oppossed to a level 6 raid. It would be interesting to see if the Dev's decide to employ that mechanic in ALL content (e.g., a level 1 = 1/4/8/Epic*)

At the same time, though, a level 6 raid COULD be taken as a training ground for upper-level raids, inculding Tempest Spine. If the vets of DDO can help brandnew players learn the fine points of DPS, healing, raid-leader communication, etc., then I think we ALL benefit from this particular addition to U7.

*...Just a random, spontaneous thought...NOT to be taken seriously ;)*

That would be the myth, yes...just like +3 tomes from the Hound. :(

Got the following from here (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=3245413&postcount=131)

While Half-Elves may be missing a niche by the book, we've got a few things up our sleeves to make them a little more interesting.

We've improved their natural social ability, and also emphasize their dual heritage and talents for doing a little bit of everything. The Dragonmark of Storm is in.

I'll tell a little more once I know I won't be hit for it. ;)

Natural social ability...as in a possible +2 to charisma?

Enhancement lines that improve cha based skills would be my guess...

Rommalb

yay, +2 to diplomacy, that would be GREAT /sarcasm

UMD, Diplo, Intim..

Coldin
09-04-2010, 07:52 PM
Could be any number of things. Maybe it's an enhancement line that gives an instant aggro resetter!

Probably not though. Just bonuses to charisma based skills.

Rommalb
09-04-2010, 07:55 PM
see, something like an innate command bonus (+2 to ALL cha skills) would be useful, but knowing turbine theyre only going to do it to something like diplomacy or bluff. very limited usage at best

umd, diplo, intim..

Here's how I interpret this:

While Half-Elves may be missing a niche by the book, we've got a few things up our sleeves to make them a little more interesting.

I think they realize how the 3.5 half-elf, translated as is, would have resulted in nothing more than a cosmetic change and fluff. Stuff is being added into the race enhancements/abilities to make them useful to the majority of the player-base (this may also be wishful thinking).

We've improved their natural social ability, and also emphasize their dual heritage and talents for doing a little bit of everything. The Dragonmark of Storm is in.

+2 Chr through enhancements, Weapon Proficiency: Longsword/Rapier, Weapon Proficiency: Longbow/Shortbow, Weapon Attack and Damage enhancements, Half-Elf Versatility I-IV (Like HV), +1 bonuses to Bluff and Diplomacy, Arcane Archer enhancements...and all 8's across the stats at creation.

Wonder how right I am...

I've been following this thread, too. Hoping for some more info...

Thorzian

i think the +2 cha is entirely possible.. the 1-4 versatility i doubt. why play a human then.. or an elf for that matter if they get bow/longsword/rapier enhancements to the same degree.

i see them getting the majority of bonuses that humans and elves get, just to a lesser degree.

Coldin
09-05-2010, 01:11 AM
Human Versatality I-II then? Kinda like how all races get Toughness I-II, but dwarves get I-IV.

Maybe Adaptability too? Who knows really.

ya, thats the direction i think they gonna go coldin. but who knows

I like how the interviewer interrupts Paiz - who is showing of an Orthon in the new raid.. "this is still level six?!"

Very well, over all. Booth was very busy today, many press appointments. At this point I would have hoped more info made it out.

I'm sorry to say that we couldn't mirror the unique difficulty/CR system of Devil Assault with the Raid. It would have been like creating 2 more raids in some ways. I know that Epic only appeals to a subset of high level players and we almost didn't bother, but decided in the end to include it anyway ( along with Devil Assault). From all yhe feedback we've received its clear that epic needs a bit of a reboot (and you should probably hear it now that the new adventure pack in U7 does not contain epic mode for this reason).

As for general content, we are generally moving up the ladder in terms of CR and I don't see us doing any more sub level 12 content in the forseeable future. We have some serious gaps to fill in the higher levels and we will be focusing our efforts there.

I am optimistic you'll liken the in-game event, it's unlike anything we've done before.

Best dev post I've read in a while.

A LEVEL SIX raid.

/facepalm

Why facepalm? I think that a lvl 6 raid is a GREAT idea! This will break up the mudane leveling process. I mean, we dont' know what the raid will acutally be like, but Tempest Spine has been a low lvl raid with countless fans since launch. Perhaps this is just what the ddo doctor ordered.

New Races
Hopefully more PrCs
Repeater/Ranged fix/repairs
new low lvl raid

Hopefully they keep the updates coming. I personally have not played much. In fact, I have not even done a single quest from the last few updates. So once I get into the new content, it will be fun, exciting, new...ect. ect. ect.....

Frankly.....At this point, any update is a good update.

I'm with Bunk on this - very happy about where its going - MadFloyd did say this will probably be the last of the low/mid level content for a while as well. We haven't had new races since drow were released.

Wizards’ Archmage Prestige Enhancement

According to a forum post, Archmage Wizards will be able to memorize spells for good, instead of just pick temporary spells (which can be replaced at a tavern or a rest shrine). The memorized spells do not consume any spellpoints.
In total there are five Archmage enhancement tiers last of which should increase your spellpoints.

Half-Orcs and -elves

Based on sigtrent’s forum post (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=272531).

Half-Orcs

+2 STR and -2 INT and CHA.
Half -Orcs will also become more powerful as their hp goes lower (“milestone” at 50% hp). A threat enhancement line.
Half-elves

Intimidate, Diplomacy and Bluff secondary skills on a separate cooldown. Basically the same as human race in regards to base stats.
Devils Assault raid

The new (CR:6) raid will have a 3 day lockdown timer after completition and does not require players to be attuned to enter the quest.

I'm not opposed to a level six raid. I just think it is misplaced effort when we've waited an entire year for an endgame raid.

The Sentinels, Carnival and Red Fens quests are pretty good. You really ought to go see 'em.
