While organising files I found a text file from one of the early chapters. Back in chapter 4 when the party crossed Makayara some of you started going nuts, and as you neared a castle the insanity of the locals started infecting the sight of those party members. I think it was only one or two party members seeing falsehoods, I don't recall who. At the time I kept what people saw separate by sending out private messages, with the intent of showing both sides later. I'm not sure if I did fulfill that promise, a moot point now with chapters 1-9 gone, but I do have both sides recorded in the text file I found. I'll share it now, and perhaps other relics if I come across them.
The first 'real' details:
It's noon of the 7th day when you get a good view of the castle, it's an old structure missing a couple of it's spires. A couple hours later you approuch. It has a moat but it's long dry, a draw bridge still spans it. When you aproach the drawbridge a motley pair of pikemen step aside to let you pass. They both wear an old uniform, but the sizes are off. Whats more peculier is the fish bowl one of them has balanced on his head, and the dead rats the other one has tied to his belt along with a flail with a large dead rat for a bludgeon. A babble of voices and a the odd crashing sound echo from within the gates. When you hesitate the fishbowl guard bows and gestures across the bridge, the tank sloshes agitating the fish but it doesn't spill.
The first 'distorted' details:
It's noon of the 7th day when you get a good view of the castle, it's an anchient masterpiece, spires and balistrades tower above. In a couple more hours you approuch. It has a deep moat, you catch sight of what looks like shark fins moving in the water below. When you approuch the drawbridge a stately pair of pikemen step aside to let you pass. One of them has fish swimming in the air above his head, the other has rats crawling around his waist and shoulders, and he also has a flail with a large live rat gleering at you from the end of it. The sounds of festive revelry echo from within the gates across the bridge. When you hesitate the fish guard bows and gestures across the bridge, the fish swim excitebly around his head.
The second 'real' details:
You cross over the bridge thru a cracked and dusty courtyard, and into a large hall, old tabards and furs decorate the walls. The room is dominated by a large throne, a thin man in dirty robes, a wooden crown, and various jewelery sits grinning on the throne. Beside him a tall well dressed solemn looking scribe stands writing. A dozen madmen are in the room, most of them tumbling, yowling, or convulsing to the kings pleasure. "I want strawberries, my kingdom for some strawberries!" shouts the King. "Very well sire royal eddict 374, kingdom for strawberries." The scribe flips to a fresh page writing as he speaks, he notices your group and frowns. "Excuse me sire I'll go greet our new guests." The King looks almost oblivious. "Guests gusts Geese ghosts ha ha!"
The second 'distorted' details:
You cross over the bridge and across a courtyard with a beautiful tile mosiac of some anchiant battle, and into a large hall. Stylised tabards and the furs of great beasts decorate the walls. The room is dominated by a large throne, a thin King in regal robes, a golden crown, and various jewelery sits grinning on the throne. Beside him a tall well dressed solemn looking scribe stands writing. A dozen guests are in the room, most of them jesters and acrobats performing acrobatics and song for the king.
The text file dates back to the 15th of May 2007, so I've been running Pawns of Fate much longer than I've realised. I think my writing style has changed quite a bit over the years, my spelling's certainly improved I can't have been using a spellchecker back than. Oh and does anyone who was a player back in chapter 4 remember which version they saw?
