Just wondering if anyone can tell me whether a Bard would be subject to arcane spell failure (in light armour) if he took a level of wizard.

Only when he's casting a spell he got from his wizard's side. So, assuming you took jump and shield as your 2 wizard spells, you'd always have to make ASF checks when casting those spells. But casting Otto's, Cure, Hypnotism, ect. you'd be fine.

A bard in light armor does not suffer arcane spell failure for arcane spells on the bard list .. spells that are on both lists should be fine I would think .. spells that are only on the wizard list would be subject to ASF.

note that I haven't actually tried a bard/wiz combo, so that's just my understanding of things ... .

Actually Eld, I think it only matters for which class you took the spell as. For instance, you take Hypnotism as a Bard, and also as a Wizard. Whenever you cast hypnotism from the Bard, you don't suffer any ASF. But when you try to use the Wizard's hypnotism, then you have to make a spell failure check.

I suppose it wouldn't be hard to create one and get to level2 to verify things .. perhaps i'll spend a little time on ghallanda tonight ..

Don't forget about scrolls. If you're casting from a scroll the game assumes you're casting as a wizzy (not too many scrolls for bards - they all show wizzy/sorc or cleric) and the spell failure will apply.

Its part of why my bards usually don't carry shields, take the arcane spell failure enhancement (drow/elf), wear mirthral chain, and are twf. With those precautions, they hardly ever have spell failure.
