So how did you get banned, Mirta?

That is a good question. Did yah go and join legion?
Honestly your posts have been pretty tame by your standards from what I have seen.
Is this another Mirta? I thought he left the game almost a year ago.

Nope this is the real deal... not that I have grouped with him since he has been back, but last I saw he was running with AMEN and you know that they would not accept an imposter. ;)

As a side to the Mirta incident, I didn't get so much as a notice...even after calling someone an @-hole (AND I have Legionairre in my sig! :) ) They must like me!

Nah... It's the waffles. Banning waffles is against human nature, and the Gello Cube fears waffles, gives him nightmares of jello flavored ice cream in a waffle cone.

I started my new tank (Mirrta) and immediately went anonymous. After looking around to make sure no plat spammers were present to see my new character I headed off to the city and started questing. Within half an hour I had received 11 tells from the SAME GUY. I reported him the first time, but nothing was done about it.
I took my anger to the forums and ripped on the devs. Something about "how many devs does it take to outsmart sweatshop Chinese plat spammers," "dickheads," and just horribly shooting down some poor noob who unsuccessfully tried to troll my thread.
Well Monday rolled around and the devs came back. The cube found my post and gave me 7 infraction points to add to my permanent 2 points. Now I'm banned through October 21 or something like that.

I hate plat farmers. I do my best to report and squelch them immediately. I also used to post on the DDO forums with suggestions on how to cut down on the problem if not outright get rid of it...but instead of taking my (or others) suggestions and actually DOING something about the problem, they just implement their own half-ass measures that don't ever work right.

I have nothing against the plat farming itself. If people want to make money off suckers in a game, more power to them. I've known individuals who have made money this way (hell I even used to make real money buying/selling stuff/plat/characters in an old text-based MUD back in the day).
What I can't stand is the constant barrage of spam. The tells that come just when you're hitting /r to reply to someone else. The mail that sends you running to the mailbox because you're waiting on an auction. I have no interest in the plat farmer's items or plat for sale. I have never signed up for anything, I have never visited their website.
When they stop ruining my gaming experience and I'll stop interfering with their money-making.

QFT.
The mail was obnoxious. It was a distraction at best and a major disatisfier in reality. The plat /tells are arguably worse, as they are a constant barrage. I will often get 3-4/hour during primetime. Not cool. It ticks me off everytime it happens. Its a constant aggravation. And working for a major credit card company and understanding how billing processes work I KNOW it would not be that hard for Turbine to shut them down, or at least put a serious crimp in their bottom line.
You guys think DDO Boards are bad, eh? I just got moderated on G-Spot for putting this in a thread about someone getting Photoshop CS3, Yeah, CS3 is sweet...but who buys it these days? It is at least 20 times better than GIMP, now I a doing animations and so on. and it said this: Reason for moderation: Illegal Activities -- e.g. Begging and/or Providing ROM/Warez/MP3/Cracks/etc.
Didn't even say that I illegally downloaded it :D

LOL Mirta...hey, I don't see a problem with that post! It was one of those 'it's funny 'cause it's true' things I guess. :)
As annoying as the plat mail was, I would take it any day over the freakin' Tells. Nothing like having to scroll back to see what party members had typed.

The mail sucked. The tells are worse.

At least with the tells you can make yourself feel better with a witty response sent 500 times while cruising the AH....still want to get one to accept a guild invite

I've had some accept guild invites (when they used to stand at the mailbox in the harbor). I'm sure I've got some screen shots of the plat-spammer in the Silver Waffle somewhere. The problem is, what to do with them after they accept! :)

Damn. Don't you miss those days when the plat spammers were well known as what they are? Back when you could find them running level 1 toons through level 12 quests? Or even fighting them in the wayward lobster and laughing as 7 of them fall to one small halfling paladin? Fun fun.
As for spamming them back: I doubt they'd even notice if you sent them 500 tells because their automated spamming system is just too damned fast. Your response would just be flushed off their screen before it can even be seen.

Well, a couple of people in BVU like to abuse them in guild chat, curse them for wasting our time, then boot them. I doubt it does any good, but it seems to make them feel a little better.

I've played some in LoTRo (another Turbine game) and they have the same problem. They've locked players from being able to send/receive mail if they are on a trial account, so the plat farmers just spam the OOC and Advice channels.
The best suggestion I've seen so far is to just ban certain words like "mmobay.com".
They already have a language filter in place, all it would take is someone updating it.

The filter does not apply to guild chat, party chat, and /tells. If they added ONLY a spam/advertising word related filter I'd be fine with it, but I have a feeling they'd lump in more and make our text chat overly censored.
But... I can already see a plat farmer counter. Instead of /tells or mail, they can have their automated bots join groups and play a recorded voice advertisement over chat. I'd probably find it REALLY funny for a while but it would get old fast.
