Spoiler

As i remember from first part and was commented on second part that reapers were created by protheans, but reapers started to take control so protheans tried to fight them, but eventually tried to hide on one of the planets (1st part of the mass effect, i think it is pre-last mission), tho it seems that everyone died out because of system failure as i remember. In 2nd mass effect we get info that actually collectors are protheans, but were ginetically modified and changed chromosomes to make them do dirty jobs for reapers and obey them, tho their appearence has changed.

Well the last boss as terminator was funny, tho i thought the fight would be harder ..... And as i understood from story line that terminator was created because collectors (influenced by reapers) think that human race is superior and trying to catch shepard as biological subject, because shepard killed sovereing. That's i think why bioware made a terminator and continue the story + shepard was working for "good" guy in first part and he is working for "bad" guys in second part, so kinda logical to see a unite fight of both sides against reaper in 3d mass effect and i guess there will be loads of quests to get the trust of all races and council to unite against reaper. Well the concept good vs evil is simple as hell, but a lot of people like it and bioware makes a good job at mixing both cinematics and story line to satisfy most players

Pretty sure you have that backstory wrong Monarx.

Reapers as far as we know, weren't created by anyone, and they've been around long before there were Protheans.

Protheans were merely the last race that was harvested and destroyed by the reapers, which is why some relics of their technology still exist. Those are things like the beacons.

The Mass Effect relays however, were created by the Reapers, as a means of travelling for themselves, but also to influence how races would advance technologically. Protheans merely based their technology off the relays like everyone else.

Ilos, was actually a secret planet that scientists were working on to recreate and truly understand the mass effect relays. It was off the grid, and as such, the Reapers didn't know of it's existence. It's reasonable to assume that the reapers ignore any undocumented planets that aren't in the citadel records. That way there's always advancing races on other planets. If they haven't achieved interstellar travel yet, they aren't worth the time.

Anyway, when the attack hit, Ilos was safe, more or less. The scientists eventually finished their work on their own mass effect relay, and traveled to the citadel using it. There they were able to stop the citadel from becoming a relay itself, ensuring that the next time the reapers come (this would have been sometime around Mass Effect 1, maybe a few hundred years before), that they wouldn't be able to.

And of course, this lengthy explanation still doesn't make a lick of sense.

Makes sense, it is just missing the beginning and more details...which I am sure we will get in Mass Effect 3. It shouldn't make total sense since they are the main threat and the main antagonist of the plot. Although I kind of doubt that there will be any answers about what happened to the scientists...because it makes no sense that they aren't to be found, because they couldn't have been killed by reapers seeing as they were successful, but I guess their ship could have been done off...or reapers could have been around the citadel and killed them after...thinking maybe they were looking for survivors, and did not think about what they had really done. Man this went on long To add, vanguard is by far my favorite class..played soldier in ME1, and in my second ME2 runthrough with an infiltrator...don't think I would like any of the adept types.

*More spoilers*

I think Mass Effect 3 is going to have a dragon age like recruitment theme. The first two games are already setting up all of the galatic races to unite under Shepard to fight the Reapers. If you go the paragon route, you've already to some degree secured the allegiance of the Rachni, Geth, and Krogan. Then theres the whole Quarian - Geth situation were your going to have to decide if you help the Quarians dominate the Geth. Then theres the two chances you had of obtaining a genophage cure to help strengthen the krogan. Then theres the ending decision of whether or not you destroy the collector base. I'm really hoping mass effect 3 fleshes out these decisions. I was really disappointed that the council STILL isn't any help, even after the first game.

I think Ilos was able to survive because the entire staff waited out hundreds of years in stasis. They then finished the conduit and teleported to the citadel and modified the keepers. They then died of starvation(there was no way to return). Then when Saren found sovereign before the beginning of ME1, the keepers ignored it's signal to open the mass relay that was the citadel, so it tried to use Saren and the Heretics to find the location of the conduit to sneak into the citadel. The ending of Mass Effect 2 seems to indicate that Harbinger and the Reapers are now finally going to travel to the milky way not that the human reaper has been destroyed. It's presumable that there will be a couple year gap before Mass Effect 3. I avidly read the Mass Effect codex entries, I really love getting into the stories of games like this, Dragon Age or even Oblivion.

IMO: Sentinel is the best class for ME2, followed closely by soldier. Assault armor is just RIDICULOUS. Combined with Morbin's incinerate and Thane or Miranda's warp, you can take out harbinger in two seconds even on insanity.

Also, I was kind of disappointed with all of the special armors they've given us for this game. If it was like Dragon Age, were it takes your helmet off durring conversations, that would be one thing, but as it is now I can't wear my Dragon Age armor because I can't even see Shepherd's facial expressions.

I'm with you on the special armors Tibs. I was excited about being able to use them, but not having a removable helmet kinda sucked.

Yea it was all very disappointing with the decisions...I expected the council to stay the same, that is just how they are, they are stuck up elders. It sucks with the armor, but after one play through it doesn't matter really. I think it would be hard to have so many decisions seeing as the tree would make a need for tons of discs, too bad it isn't on the ps3 in some ways...

And I agree with Yahtzee, sometimes I feel like he is a bit off in some places, but he was spot on.
